The APA Neighbourhood Policing Policy
The APA Neighbourhood Policing Policy Group identified the need for guidance outlining how Police Authorities can best comply with requirements set out under the Children Act 2004. As a result, a Children and Youth Issues Working Group was established to oversee the development of guidance. DCPA Member John Smith and policy officer Eelke Zoestbergen were members of this workgroup.
This guidance is now complete and is available on the attached link.
The guiance has been informed by consultation with young people in Devon & Cornwall. This consultation used a multi-agency approach involving young people accessing provision via services provided by the Devon Youth Service and Cornwall and Devon Connexions. It was also considered by the Young People's Scrutiny Forum. The consultation document has been attached.
Throughthe process of developing the guidance, a number of national policy issues have been identified where further consideration is needed. These include performance management, effective multi-agency use of IT, vetting of Police Authority staff and members and the process of dealing with complaints made by children and young people.
To ensure these issues are given appropriate consideration, the Children and Youth Issues Working Group will continue to meet together with key national stakeholders over the coming months. It is intended that following these considerations, the guidance will be updated in June 2007. The Devon and Cornwall Police Authority website will continue to be updated to reflect these developments.
